1. What should I wear?

Come as you are. You’ll see a range, from jeans and casual wear to more traditional Sunday clothes, maybe even a fancy hat. There’s no dress code, and you won’t stand out either way.

2. What happens in a typical service?

Worship usually follows a liturgical pattern:

Gathering (music, prayer, confession/forgiveness)

Word (Bible readings, sermon)

Meal (Holy Communion)

Sending (blessing and dismissal)

You’ll likely receive a bulletin or see everything projected. The structure is consistent, but the tone can vary (traditional, blended, or more contemporary).

3. Do I have to participate or say things out loud?

Participation is always invited, never required.

You’re welcome to:

Join in responses and prayers

Sing (or just listen)

Sit quietly and observe

No one will single you out.

4. Can I take communion?

Yes. The ELCA practices open communion, meaning all are welcome at the table, regardless of background or denomination.
You’ll receive bread and wine (or grape juice). We have the practice of giving a thumbs up to the server if you would like gluten free bread or grape juice instead of wine. If you prefer not to receive, you can come forward for a blessing or remain seated.

5. What about kids?

Children are fully welcome in worship. We offer a children’s message during the service, that they would be welcome to join us for or just listen from their pew.

Don’t worry about noise, kids are part of the community.

6. What do Lutherans believe?

At the heart of ELCA belief is:

Grace alone – we are saved by God’s gift, not by what we do

Faith alone – we trust in God’s promise

Scripture alone – the Bible is central to our faith

Jesus Christ is at the center, and God’s love is for everyone.

7. Is this church welcoming to everyone?

We are a Reconciling in Christ (RIC) Congregation, affirming full participation of all people regardless of race, ethnicity, sexuality or any other idenity.
Hospitality, justice, and care for neighbors are core values.

8. Will I be asked to give money?

An offering is part of worship, there’s no expectation to give. Your presence is a gift.

9. Will people talk to me or leave me alone?

Usually a bit of both!

You can expect:

A greeting when you arrive

Some friendly conversation (often during a “passing the peace” moment)

But no one should pressure you or make you uncomfortable.

10. Do I have to agree with everything to attend?

No. We make room for questions, doubt, and spiritual exploration. You don’t need to have everything figured out to belong or participate. If there are questions or theological thoughts you would like to explore more our Pastoral staff always welcome deep conversation.

11. How long is the service?

Typically about 60 minutes, though it can vary slightly depending on the congregation and season.

12. Is there anything after the service?

Often yes, we try every week to offer coffee/fellowship time.

You’re welcome to stay or head out, no pressure either way.

13. How do I get more involved if I want to?

You can:

Talk to the pastor or a greeter

Check the website or announcements

There are usually opportunities for service, learning, and community.

14. Where should I sit?

Anywhere!
If you’re unsure, ushers or greeters can help. There are no “reserved” spots. Joking about the fear of "stealing" someone elses spot can be a fun ice breaker to cut in and talk to someone. While visiting other congregations I have found where I wanted sit and if anyone sits near me I'll ask if I'm in someone elses spot and have only been met with welcome and bemusment at the bad habbit of assuming "saved" spots.

14.What if I’ve had a bad church experience before?

You’re not alone and you’re welcome here. We hope to extend healing, grace, and meeting people where they are. You can engage at your own pace.
