At Westby Coon Prairie, our WELCA (Women of the ELCA) is an active part of our congregation, bringing women together for fellowship, faith, service, and fun throughout the year.
WELCA meets monthly on the third Thursday of each month at 10AM in the church basement. Meetings typically include singing, devotions, and time for conducting WELCA business. From time to time, meetings also feature a presentation or program on a topic of interest to the group.
Beyond their monthly gatherings, WELCA hosts and supports a variety of events throughout the year, helping to build community within our congregation and beyond.
Whether through worship, fellowship, service, or special events, WELCA is an important part of the life and ministry of Westby Coon Prairie Lutheran Church.
Purpose: As a community of women created in the image of God, called to discipleship in Jesus Christ, and empowered by the Holy Spirit, we commit ourselves to grow in faith, affirm our gifts, support one another in our callings, engage in ministry and action, and promote healing and wholeness in the church, the society, and the world.
Mission: Mobilizing women to act boldly on their faith in Jesus Christ.
Our quilting ministry is blessed with two wonderful quilting groups that share their time, talents, and love with others. The ABC Quilters gather on Tuesday mornings to make beautiful baby quilts, while our LWR Quilters gather on Thursday mornings create full-size quilts to share with people in need through Lutheran World Relief. Both groups offer opportunities for fellowship, creativity, and putting our faith into action through the gift of a handmade quilt.
Each fall, our WELCA gathers items to assemble both LWR Personal Care Kits and LWR Back-to-School Kits. These kits are a tangible way for our congregation to share God’s love and provide practical support to people around the world.
If you have someone in your life who is in need of a little extra love and a reminder that they are being prayed for, our WELCA makes handmade prayer shawls that are available to anyone. Each shawl is made with care and prayer and is a tangible reminder of God’s love and the prayers of our church community.
